Replace My Austin Air Purifier Filter

filterreplacement“How do I replace my Austin Air Purifier filter” is a question that we hear from many of our customers.  Replacing the filter on a standard or junior Austin Air purifier is as easy as 1, 2, 3!  Here are the 3 steps to follow when replacing your filter.

  1. Unplug the unit and turn it upside down on a soft surface (rug, carpet, towel).
  2. Unscrew the four screws on the bottom of the purifier.  You will need a regular screw driver.  Pull out the old filter canister which will be round.  Be sure to remove the pre-filter which looks like a blanket that is wrapped around the canister.
  3. Put the new filter in the unit with the pre-filter wrapped around the canister.  Screw the 4 screws back into the bottom of the unit.  Turn it right side up, plug it in, and run it on high for one hour.  Then turn it back to the normal speed.

You’re done!  Fresh air is on it’s way to you.

If you have questions about which replacement filter you need for your unit or need more help replacing the filter once it gets to you, call me at (800) 997-2989 24 hours a day!

Austin Air Purifiers Explained

maturewomanelegantjpegWe get many calls asking for explanations about Austin Air Purifiers……and how to tell which unit is the best for their situation. Perhaps the easiest way to explain the differences is to talk about the similarities first.

All Austin Air purifiers have a large particle, medium particle, and HEPA filter.  The large particle filter traps particles that can be seen with the naked eye.  The medium particle prefilter removes particles that are smaller and less visible to the eye, but larger than microscopic size.

The HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filter is the same type of filter used in hospitals.  By definition it is able to remove 99.97% of particles down to .3 microns in size.  In other words, for every 10,000 microscopic particles in the air, the HEPA will remove 99,997 of them.

The thinking behind having these 3 filters is that no one filter is expected to remove all size particles and this gradation of filter size is why Austin is able to offer a 5-year prorated warranty on the filters. It is the 4th filter in each of the units that makes them different.

In the Austin Air HealthMate Purifier (often referred to as the HM400) the 4th filter is 15 lbs. of activated carbon zeolite.  This filter is a multi- purpose filter that will remove particles as wells as gases, odors, and some chemicals.

In the Austin Air Allergy Machine Air Purifier (or the HEGA series…HEGA stands for high efficiency gas adsorption) the 4th filter is carbon cloth.  It has a dual function of removing gases and chemicals, as well as particles since the carbon strands are woven like a cloth.  Carbon cloth was originally developed by the British to combat chemical warfare.  This filter is best at removing dust, dust mites, pollen, pet dander, mold and mildew spores, as well as noxious odors and gases.

The Austin Air HeathMate Plus Air Purifier  is just as its name implies.  It has everything the HealthMate Purifier has PLUS an additive called potassium iodide.  This additive enhances the carbon’s ability to remove Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs).  This filter is best used to remove high powered chemicals that frequently off-gas from furniture, carpet, adhesives, paints, enamels, nail and beauty salon products, and fine arts studio materials.

The Austin Air Pet Machine Air Purifier has a filter that is similar to the HealthMate.  It has the 15lbs. of activated carbon zeolite plus an additive called ammonasorb.  And as its name implies, ammonasorb enhances the carbon’s ability to remove ammonia that off gasses from urine.

The Austin Air Bedroom Machine Air Purifier is a combination of the Allergy Machine and HealthMate Purifiers.  It has both the 15 lbs. of activated carbon as well as carbon cloth.  So it is equally efficient at removing gases and particles.

The filter comes in each purifier when purchased, which the makes the purifiers plug-in ready.  Each standard size purifier will accept any standard size filter if the purifier housing was made after 1995.

This means if you purchase the Allergy Machine Air Purifier, and then discover that your cat has been missing the litter box.  You can purchase the Pet Machine replacement filter without having to purchase a new unit.

Austin Air products are made in the United States.  They are made in one of the largest manufacturing plants in the United States, and are located in Buffalo, New York.

Summer Mold Allergies

coupleembracingAir conditioning ducts a source of allergy triggers is often overlooked.  I have a friend who avoids air conditioning in the car and in the house even on the hottest days because of the symptoms the air causes.

Even though we refresh our homes with a change of carpet, color schemes, and furnishings, most of us don’t think about cleaning the ducts that carry air into every room of our home all through the year.

In the summer these ducts carry cool air through dark tubes that never see the light of day.  These tubes or ducts are a prime area for mold growth.  It is the rare person who has their ducts steam cleaned.  And so airborne mold and mold spores have the potential to be blown into every room, and circulated again and again.

Anyone who suffers from allergies or asthma will find that being indoors in an air conditioned space can be just as challenging as being outside in the midst of pollen season.

So in a perfect world steam cleaning the air ducts every couple of years would be ideal.  This is not always possible for numerous reasons.  But regardless of how it’s done, clearing the air is a must.

Make your home a haven especially in the summer with the Allergy Air Purifier from PurerAir.com   It can remove airborne mold spores as well as other triggers that cause nasal congestion, watering eyes, and coughing.  And it’s designed to filter your air 24 hours every day.

The Allergy Balancing Act

Young beautiful woman jumping with a scarf

Managing airborne allergies means having effective strategies when allergens threaten to send your immune system into overdrive.

Taking precautions to minimize symptoms, but knowing how to effectively squelch symptoms when they occur is the key to being able to keep your life on track.

Preventative Strategies

  1. Use a high efficiency particle arresting air purifier to remove typical allergens such as dust mites, household dust, pet dander, seasonal pollens, odors and airborne chemicals.
  2. Launder linens at least once a week in water that is 160 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter to kill mites.
  3. Use scent free products whenever possible.
  4. Eliminate smoke and smokers from your home.

Dealing with Symptoms

  1. Increase the rate of filtration on your HEPA air purifier. This will remove allergens in the air faster and reduce the number that with which your body will have to respond.
  2. If your symptoms include a stuffy nose, use a decongestant rather than an antihistamine.  This will usually open nasal passages and make it easier to breathe (and think).
  3. Resist the temptation to sniff. Blow your nose instead
  4. Drink plenty of fluids to help your body flush out the allergens, and stay well rested.

If you lived in a bubble or a perfect world taking preventative strategies would be all you needed to live happily ever after.  But since we live in neither, having a balance of solutions will help.

The Allergy Air Purifier contains a medical grade high efficiency particle arresting filter that will scrub your air of allergens 24 hours a day.  And if and when the air gets thick with allergens, it is ready to go as fast as you need it to with 3 filtration speeds.

With effective preventative strategies and an air purifier that can step up to clean your air quickly and effectively, you will stand a better chance of being able to go on regardless of what life throws your way.

Air Purifier for Allergies

A customer called several days ago to ask about a purifier that would make the air clean enough for a family member who suffers with allergies to visit with her in her home for a week.  She had several cats but no problem with urine odor.  She called to make sure she had ordered the correct machine.  “Why is the Allergy Machine Air Purifier the best air cleaner for my situation?” she askedcat gold w woman.  Here is the answer.

It has 4-stage filtration which means the air is pulled through 4 filters. Each filter is designed to trap a different size particle.  This unit produces 250 cubic feet of fresh air every 60 seconds.

The first filter is the large particle pre-filter which is designed to remove airborne particles that can be seen without magnification.

The second filter is a medium particle pre-filter that removes particles that are less visible but not microscopic.

The HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filter removes airborne particles as small as .3 microns in size.  A micron is defined as one millionth of a meter which is far smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.  A HEPA removes these particles with 97% efficiency which means that for every 100,000 particles it must be able to remove 99,997!

The 4th filter is a dual-purpose filter that is woven like a cloth and made of carbon.  This enables the carbon cloth to trap particles as well as gases odors and chemicals.  Originally made by the British Military to combat chemical warfare, this 4th filter offers increased elimination of gaseous and particulate triggers.

Most allergy sufferers are allergic to multiple triggers.  So being able to remove odors as well as particulates is a huge benefit.

The filters don’t care about the source of the trigger, so they will remove animal dander, pollen, dust mites, mold and mildew spores, and household dust 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Put the Austin Air Allergy Machine Air Purifier to work in your home and relax knowing that the air is cleaner for your visitors and for you and your family long after your company has gone.
